چکیده

Ferrichrome is a representative member of a group of microbial products which show very intense growth factor activity when tested with a small number of selected fungal and bacterial species (1). Some of the members of this group of compounds, e.g. aspergillic acid (2), nocardamin (3), and grisein (albomycin) (4), are potent antibiotics against certain strains of microorganisms. Although the ultimate physiological function of the ferrichrome compounds is unknown, there is considerable evidence that would implicate them as catalysts for the transport and metabolism of iron. The available information relevant to this point of view has been discussed elsewhere (1). In the present communication we wish to describe the natural distribution and some of the nutritional aspects of ferrichrome. In addition, results will be reported for certain studies on the physiology of a bacterial species which requires ferrichrome for growth. These experiments offer the first tangible evidence in support of the theory that ferrichrome functions as an irontransporting agent in microbial metabolism.

The mechanism of ferrichrome transport through Arn1p and its metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Siderophores are low molecular weight compounds, synthesized and secreted by microorganisms, that specifically bind ferric iron with exceptionally high affinity. Microbes capture these compounds and take up the bound iron through specific, high-affinity systems. Saccharomyces cerevisiae can take up iron bound to siderophores through the transporters of the ARN family; however, the mechanism by ...

Effect of Cinnamon and its Biologically Active Compounds on the Components and Symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome

Background and purpose: Metabolic syndrome refers to a set of diseases including insulin resistance, high blood glucose levels, obesity, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia. The cinnamon plant is a member of the Lauraceae family and is considered a universal medicinal plant. Traditional medicine studies reported the therapeutic effects of this plant in the reduction of blood glucose levels, b...

Microbial Degradation of the Ferrichrome Compounds.

An unidentified Pseudomonas capable of growth on ferrichromes as sole sources of carbon and nitrogen was isolated by enrichment culture on ferrichrome A. The spectral shifts observed for the culture supernatant fluids and the degradation products which accumulated in the culture media during growth on these compounds indicated that initially the cyclic peptide rings are broken to yield simpler ...

Oxidative stress, biochemical alterations, and hyperlipidemia in female rats induced by lead chronic toxicity during puberty and post puberty periods

Objective(s):Lead (Pb) is a toxic metal inducing many destructive effects leading to a broad range of physiological, biochemical, and neurological dysfunctions in humans and laboratory animals. Materials and Methods: Here, we investigated the effect of chronic exposure to Pb (50 mg/l) on oxidative stress, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and lipid profile of two different age groups of female r...

Studies on the Influence of Various Metabolic Uncouplers on the Biodegradation Rate of Toluene in a Biofilm Bio-Filter Reactor

Biological inhibition of air pollution has vast advantages over physicochemical methods. One of the biggest challenges faced by researchers with traditional bio-filter in controlling Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) such as Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX) is, low degradation rate (elimination capacity) and accumulation of very high biomass. The use of metabolic uncouplers...
